This summer, the French group Rail Europe Solutions had the great pleasure of signing two new blanket purchase agreements with the Chemins de Fer de Corse (CFC) in France. Following the consultation phase, during which RES was able to listen to the needs of the Corsican network and demonstrate its technical capacity to adapt to its demands, the Corsican partners decided to place their trust in RES. Around 10,000 sleepers, 500 timbers, 50,000 sleeper screws and various fasteners will be delivered over a period of 36 months in order to maintain the CFC network.<\/p>\n\n

A technical challenge<\/h2>\n\n

The Chemin de Fer Corse network has had to adapt to the very particular terrain of this beautiful island. The 232 kilometres of track feature a large number of engineering structures on account of the rugged landscape. Its winding and narrow track requires 2.00m long sleepers, as opposed to the 2.60m sleepers used on more conventional tracks. The Corsican railway network is very unique and uses a different metric track technology from the national network. Thanks to RES’ design office, the machining and notching drawings for the turnout and junction timbers, which are specific to the Corsican network, were redesigned to meet the customer’s needs.<\/p>\n\n

Multimodal transport<\/h2>\n\n

This rewarding technical challenge comes with an additional logistical aspect for RES. Since all of the parts will be delivered directly to the customer in Ponte Leccia, as they would be in mainland France, our experienced field sales team and logistics department will have the added challenge of coordinating both road and sea transport.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
